Last year I did some recording sessions in Oxford with a great musician called
Peter Conway. The results of those sessions can now be heard on
his debut album
Mother World, released yesterday on Rainbow Hill Records. Go get yourself a copy from
iTunes. It's very good...
TODAY IS BORING presents an interpretive evening of film, minus its original audio, accompanied by live improvisational music and sounds.

Recommended by TimeOut London, The Andre Canniere Group has been creating a stir in the modern jazz scene since its formation in New York City in 2005. The group performs challenging yet accessible music full of evocative harmonic explorations and complex rhythms, complemented by thoughtful improvisation. Much of the music, all of which is composed by Canniere, is rooted in jazz, but also draws heavily upon other genres including pop, classical and folk music.
Canniere formed the group in 2002 while studying at the Eastman School of Music and continued working with the original members after they had moved to New York City. For the next several years, Canniere entertained large and enthusiastic audiences regularly in and around New York with performances in venues including The Jazz Gallery, Birdland, The Knitting Factory, James Carney’s Konceptions Series, Jimmy’s 43, Kavehaz and CBGB’s.
In 2008 Canniere relocated to London and has formed a UK-based version of the group. Since moving to London his group has been featured at the HSBC Cheltenham Jazz Festival and in 2009 Canniere was featured at the Riverfront Jazz Festival in Greenwich, London. In addition to performing at some of London’s finest venues including Blackheath Concert Halls, The Vortex, Pizza on the Park, The 606 Club, The Cobden Club and The Spice of Life, Canniere also performs frequently in cities throughout the rest of the UK and Europe.

Arcola Theatre. I might also be doing a gig with
Peter Conway in Nottingham on 6th September. Check back for more
updates soon.

Thanks to all who came out to the Con Cellar gig on Monday. In case
you couldn't make it, here's the evidence... Still a bit rough around
the edges in some areas, but considering it was only the second gig
with the new group I'd say we should be pretty chuffed. Enjoy!

In the words of Richard Turner... Promoting a jazz gig is an exercise in persuasion and sometimes mind control. When trying to persuade someone to attend an evening of extemporized weirdness in a concrete cellar in north London it's occasionally temping to get economical with the truth. However, one way of avoiding this awkward, dishonest and unnecessary rhetoric is to book another band thus exhibiting twice the jazz, twice the love and half the bullshit.
Here at The Con Cellar Bar we pride ourselves on our reputability, candor and realness and believe that curating an extemporaneously swinging Monday night session consisting of two bands playing one after the other, with a short intermission in between, for the price of slightly more than a pint of beer, is the way forward.
We hope you can make it down this week for what is forecast to be a great evening consisting of all the ingredients in a fertile soufflé.

Just a reminder that on 12th March I'll be playing in London at the Highgate School as part of their annual subscription concert series. This promises to be an interesting show and a bold departure from previous ACG gigs. Instead of performing original material, I have chosen to pay tribute to several important jazz trumpet players (and a few trombone players). The program will include music by historical legends Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis as well as current gurus Wynton Marsalis and Dave Douglas. The line-up will feature some of London's best players including trombonist Malcolm Earle-Smith, pianist Ivo Neame, bassist Jasper Hoiby and drummer James Maddren.

Come down to the
Regal Room in Hammersmith on Friday the 13th (ooohh...). I'll be
playing with Sam Sharp and his Pack of Six featuring Yvette on vocals,
along with other special guests. There will be two short sets spread
over the evening. Advance bookings are recommended.
It’s hard to believe I’ve been in London for almost one year already! Much has happened in 2008, but now is the time to look ahead and see what 2009 has to offer.
On 12 March, The Andre Canniere Group will be giving a special performance as part of the Highgate Subscription Concert Series. The program will be celebrating the music of legendary jazz brass players and composers including Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Bob Brookmeyer, Wynton Marsalis and Dave Douglas.
